The Cypress Team can deliver comprehensive investment grade and ASHRAE Level 1-3 audits as well as complete technical services for clients, offsetting energy project costs. We do this through utility bill and operational savings; utility incentives; and where feasible… tax deductions.

Our partner Advance Energy Innovations developed online audit tools that are currently in use by several utility companies and third party programs, including the (LACBPP) Los Angeles Commercial Building Performance Partnership, and PG&E’s (CHPLP) California High Performance Lighting Program. These tools address every property type in the commercial / industrial sector and could easily be adapted for the residential sector as well. Our tools provide information on estimated energy savings, demand savings, maintenance savings, equipment costs, labor costs, utility incentives, and EPAct tax deductions.

Smart Grid Integration

Our Real-time Continuous Analysis of Performance tool (ReCAP) is one tool for  separate and unique categories of building types and energy sub-systems. The application collects building information by gathering lighting, mechanical and envelope description specifics as well as client financial expectations and criteria as well as established the buildings Energy Star score. We developed a Building Assessment tool, an Audit Lighting and EPAct Audit tool, a HVAC and Envelope Audit Tool, and Report Tools that processes all of the data collected through the audit tools and makes final energy and incentive calculations which are presented graphically by building or by space as well as through Excel based reports in multiple formats. Smart Meter data, real-time building systems data and utility bill data can also be integrated seamlessly.

Owners and contractors use the Building Assessment to gather basic building information and client payback and investment expectations. ReCAP  can be configured to collect building information gathering lighting, mechanical and envelope description specifics, Smart Meter data as well as client financial expectations and criteria. The Online Investment Grade Audit Lighting and EPAct Audit tool collects existing fixture, lamp, ballast, room dimension and light level data which is then run through the Online Investment Grade Lighting and EPAct Report tool and HVAC and Envelope Report tool which uses this information to calculate energy savings and incentives. The HVAC and Envelope Audit tool collects existing HVAC, hot water systems, mechanical, roof, insulation, windows, motors, boilers, chillers and more data which is then run through the Energy tool which uses this information, in combination with energy modeling and retro commissioning to calculate energy savings and incentives.

ReCAP produces professional reports that demonstrate energy savings on a whole building or space by space. Commercial facilities need to achieve a return on investment and look to energy savings, self-generating and  energy storage options at an increasing rate. Businesses have harvested the low hanging fruit of replacing energy consuming devices and are pursuing “smart” energy management solutions in order to realize the available additional 20% – 25% deep savings potential in their facilities.

Integrated solutions involving  EE, DR, micro-generation, onsite renewable generation, energy storage, and controls technologies are the key to reaching deep savings.  A comprehensive understanding of a building user’s near real time energy consumption intensity and pattern along with a range of discrete measures optimized¬ at installation and on a continuous basis, will enable deep savings and directly impact business enterprise value and profitability.

For Utilities

It is critical that the dollars utilities spend on EE, DR and initiatives such as Smart Grid investments deliver actual results. This can have a direct effect on the utilities’ earnings based on regulatory policy. Actual allowed net energy savings from the array of EE and DR technology measures as deployed in customer programs sometimes vary post installation and influence the reporting of claimed savings. Therefore, in order to support the efficacy of measure-based incentives and gain incremental savings, a complementary performance based method will also benefit utilities.
